Fall 2020 Business Meeting Cancelled

It is with great reluctance that the Board of Directors of the Midwest Insulation Contractors Association is notifying you, our members, of its decision to act proactively in cancelling its 2020 fall business meeting.  In order for MICA to properly plan and execute our fall business meeting on October 14 – 16, 2020, the Boarded decided that it needed to have greater assurance that the potential health concerns for you, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, would be at an acceptable level as determined by the CDC guidelines that would allow us to conduct a safe fall business meeting.  Earlier this month, Omaha was designated as a “red zone” city by the CDC and currently, Omaha is under mandate requiring the wearing of masks in all public spaces.  The Board is concerned that this mandate and potential other restrictions may still be in effect in October. 

 The results of our recent survey indicated that the majority of our members have these same concerns.  Many of our member firms have restrictions prohibiting all non-essential travel through the end of 2020.  There is a concern that some members may be forced to self-quarantine for up to 14 days when they return home from any travel outside of their state, especially if that travel takes them to a red-zone classified city or state.  The survey results, coupled with the continued uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, helped the Board reach its decision to cancel the fall 2020 business meeting.

 The Board is disappointed in its inability to provide you with the educational experience that is part of the fall business meeting.  The Board feels that it is essential that MICA provides you with a scaled down educational experience.  We are working with the NIA to still conduct the free half-day pre-meeting seminar on specification reading.  We are working to deliver this seminar remotely.  Further, on October 15th, the first day of our fall business meeting, we will be conducting a webinar delivered Keynote speaker presentation.  The Board will conduct its fall meeting in October, and we have asked our committee chairs to schedule a remote meeting for their individual committee during October.

 It is the Board’s desire to keep you connected to your association and to benefit, even if remotely, from the educational opportunities that will be forthcoming in October.
